600 LDS households are trained in financial management

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA) – The international organization Islamic Relief Philippines is empowering 600 household members in the municipality of Ditsaan-Ramain in financial management.

The first group of trainees consisting of 100 people from the village of Lumbatan is currently undergoing the training. They are divided into 10 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), consisting of 10 members per group, based on their interests and livelihood proposals.

The remaining 500 households will have their turn between June and July this year. They will come from Linamon, Barimbingan, Buadi Alao, Bagoaingud and Maindig barangays.

Each SHG will then receive a cash grant in the amount of P50,000 as start-up capital for the livelihood of their choice after the training. Other necessary equipment that cannot be purchased with the cash grant will also be provided by Islamic Relief.

In addition to financial management, the 600 household members will also be trained in product and market development. Those who will engage in skills-based livelihoods will also undergo skills development and/or upgrading training.

Sittie Jamairah Disomimba, regional program manager for Islamic Relief, said the training was part of the livelihoods component of the Sustainable Transformation and Resilience Initiatives for Vulnerable Communities (STRIVEC) in Ranao in the Philippines. , a three-year project to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi City and their host communities.

She said Ditsaan-Raman was chosen as the beneficiary municipality, thanks to the help of Task Force Bangon Marawi, as it was where many IDPs sought refuge during the 2017 siege.

The livelihood training component of the project, meanwhile, is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Investment.

Meanwhile, Disomimba urged beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to jump-start their lives by applying their learnings to sustain the livelihoods they have chosen. She said it is an opportunity given to them in exchange for their vision to make the assistance sustainable in the long term.

She further assured that Islamic Relief is always ready to lend a hand to improve their lives, as the organization will implement its programs and projects in Lanao del Sur until June 2023.
